G & E Equipment Rentals Ltd.
Martman Excavating and G. & E. Equipment Rentals is one of the most active contractors on Southern Vancouver
Island, doing work as far north on the island as Campbell River, and into the interior of British Columbia
to Vernon.
The company was founded in 1979 by Gord Martman and Liz Martman.
The company is primarily involved in prime contractor excavation work in subdivision development,
reconstruction of existing infrastructure, trunk sewer and water works including mechanical pumpstations,
golf course site preparation start to finish, and site development of commercial building sites.

I incorporated as Gord Martman Excavating Ltd. in 1979.
My personal background came from Slegg Lumber in Sidney, B.C. Hydro as a surveyor during the construction
of the Peace River Dam and Mika Dam, then moving back to Sidney where I had grown up and went to school.
I worked for Columbia Ready Mix as a driver, sales rep, and manager for five years before going out on my
own. During the early years of the company, we mainly serviced the residential housing market and small
subdivision development.
In 1983, I incorporated G & E Equipment Rentals Ltd. During the next six years we expanded into larger
subdivision work, municipal servicing, site servicing of townhouse projects and commercial buildings.
Our head office has always been located in Sidney. We have moved operating locations four times due to
growth. We now operate from 2061 Mills Road, using three industrial lots totalling three acres. Here we
have our offices, repair shop, Peninsula Landscape Supplies and contractor tool Rental operation.
In addition to Greater Victoria our area of work has taken us to Campbell River, Quadra Island, Forrest Island,
Sooke, Port Renfrew and Vernon.
G & E Equipment Rentals currently employs 65+ full time employees, all with extensive backgrounds in installing
underground services. We are very proud to have our first three employees still with us. One third of our staff
have been with us for ten years or more. I believe this speaks well for the employer/employee relationship and
our ability to work well as a team.
